This week, I was challenged by this quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson, a poet, essayist and philosopher who wrote in 1860, ‘You can never do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.’ So let me ask you, how you getting on with ‘Loving your neighbour as yourself?’ Well perhaps we should all take notice of Waldo’s quote and do an unexpected kindness to a neighbour this week You might be surprised by the result. Tea and cake is always a good start!
Here’s an inspirational quote for this week by Charles Spurgeon, “The Lord is my Shepherd. He is not a shepherd, He is my Shepherd. He cares for me, watches over me, and preserves me.” And here is the really good news – the Lord is also your shepherd.
This week please reflect on this quote by D. L. Moody who once said, “A man does not get grace because he works for it. Grace is the free gift of God.” Praise the Lord.
As we approach our Love Aldwick summer celebration, just remember this inspirational quote by Eric Liddell: “We are all missionaries. Wherever we go we either bring people nearer to Christ, or we repel them from Christ.” The Love Aldwick events often bring non-Christians into the church – so please make sure you radiate the love of Jesus to everyone you meet!
This weekend’s service centres on Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 1: that we would know “His incomparably great power for us who believe.”. Inspired by this verse C T Studd once wrote “Christ wants not nibblers of the possible, but grabbers of the impossible.” It’s time to dream the impossible dream – and then make it happen in the power of the Holy Spirit.
I think Charles Spurgeon made a good point when he said, “When God opens a door, no man can shut it; and when He shuts it, no man can open it.” So next time God gives you an opportunity to share the Gospel – just do it.
“We are not here to sit in the darkness, but to shine His light into it. Christ is the Light—our job is to carry Him to the ends of the earth” – C T Studd. As believers, let’s not keep the light to ourselves. This week, in your words, in your kindness, in your courage—be someone who carries Christ’s light into dark places. A smile, a prayer, a helping hand may shine brighter than you know.
If you are feeling a bit down, then here’s a pick-me-up from Charles Spurgeon. “God’s people are not only a people of promise, but a people of possession; they are His, and He is theirs.” Time to celebrate – you are part of God’s family.
This week Simon will be stressing the importance of welcoming the Holy Spirit into your daily life because as D L Moody once said, “You might as well try to hear without ears, or breathe without lungs, as to try to live a Christian life without the Spirit of God in your heart.”
